Gryphon Award

The Gryphon Award of $1,000 was given annually in recognition of an English language work of fiction or non-fiction for which the primary audience is children in Kindergarten through Grade 4. The title chosen best exemplifies those qualities that successfully bridge the gap in difficulty between books for reading aloud to children and books for practiced readers.  2021 was the final year this award was presented.

Gryphon Award 2023

Please see this announcement from the official website...

"NOVEMBER 28, 2022 – The Center for Children’s Books will be retiring the Gryphon Award as of 2023. We were thrilled to be able to recognize so many excellent books for early and beginning readers, and we hope authors, illustrators, and educators continue to support efforts toward early literacy and instill a love of books in children just beginning to venture into independent reading. A list of all winners and honor books is available on the award’s archive page."
