Handy Topics in the Curriculum Department

The titles on this page all come from the Lower Level Graphic Novel Collection of the Calvin T. Ryan Library.  This collection is both current and historical.  As such, some of these works use terms and descriptions that are now recognized as offensive.  Inclusion on this page does not condone the use of these archaic terms and descriptions.

Some books are very specific about the type of disability, neurodiversity, or chronic health discussed. 

Other books, it may be more difficult to determine, either because the book doesn't really specify or because the various resources used to compile these lists do not include that information.

Books that fall into this latter category are placed in the general topic of "Disabilities".

If you see a title on one of these lists and you know a more specific category it can go in, please email us! 

Please note, this page does not include every physical or mental illness represented in the children's books in our collection (reminder...all of our books are in the catalog).  If there is a topic or specific title that you feel should be included on this page, please email us about that as well!
