Library Services for Online and Distance Students

On this page you can find information about research and library support services for UNK online and distance students!

What is ILL?

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a cooperative effort among libraries to share resources. Through ILL, you are able to borrow physical items such as books, DVDs, musical scores, CDs and microfilm.

In addition to physical items, electronic scans of articles are also provided through this service.

Ebooks are not available through ILL.

What can Online and Distance Students Get Through ILL?

UNK Distance Students may request books from the Calvin T. Ryan Library collection and journal articles that are not available in our article databases through the ILL request system.

For physical materials such as books that are not owned by the Calvin T. Ryan Library, distance students are encouraged to check ILL options through their local library.

Distance students in the U.S.A. with no access to a local library with ILL may request physical materials not owned by CTR Library.

ILL will not mail books to International addresses, aside from APO/FPO addresses.  Distance students are responsible for any return postage and packaging.

How much will this cost?

Calvin T. Ryan Library does not charge for materials it obtains for UNK faculty, students, and staff; however, certain requests made to the Nebraska State Historical Society may require a payment from the requestor.

Distance students are responsible for any return postage and packaging.
