Defining open access options.

Gold Open Access means fully and permanently free for users to download and read.

Green Open Access, or self-archiving, allows the author to place a version of the work in a repository that allows free access to the item.

Hybrid Open Access is when the author can pay a subscription journal to make the single item open access. Explanation from Springer.
