Course Reserve Information

Course reserves are high-use materials assigned to entire classes.  Reserves may be checked out from the Circulation Desk in the Calvin T. Ryan Library.

Reserves can include entire C.T. Ryan library books, personal copies of books, CDs, DVDs and videos. Reserve items may have varying checkouts periods as designated by your professor.  In most cases reserves are checked out for a period of 2 hours and must not leave the library. In the event that faculty elect for a longer checkout term, the item may be allowed to leave the library.  Check with Access Services staff for more information.

Information for Faculty

All photocopied items, personal books, and library books to be placed on Paper or Electronic Reserves must be listed on a Reserve Request form.  You may place multiple items on reserve for a course; however CTR Library requires a completed form for each class.  A single form will not be accepted for multiple classes.  No reserves will accepted without a completed form.

Items may be placed on reserve for one (1) semester only. No materials will be placed on permanent reserve. Please indicate a date on which you wish to have the materials removed from reserve if you do not wish to place them on reserve for the entire semester.  Personal copies may be picked up from the desk until the end of the semester at which time they will be returned to your office via campus mail.

The library is not responsible for damage or loss of personal material that is placed on reserve.

Loan periods for reserve are typically one (1) to four (4) hours - Library Use Only.  If you would like to allow a student to take the item out of the library, you may elect to have a check out period from one (1) to seven (7) days.

If you have any questions please contact the Access Services at 308-865-8599.

NOTICE:  WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code) governs the making of photocopies of other reproductions of copyrighted material.  Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy of reproductions.  One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.”  If a user later uses a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement.  This institution reserves the right to refuse materials to place on reserve if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
